Targa TWIC Entrance Construction
Project Overview
Gant Industries was selected as the prime contractor for the construction of a new TWIC entrance at a chemical plant located at 12510 American Petroleum Rd., Houston, TX. The project involved the construction of 37,000 square feet of paving and a 640-square-foot guard building, designed to enhance security and streamline access for personnel. Although the work was outside the operational areas of the chemical plant, Gant Industries adhered to the same rigorous safety standards and protocols as if work were occurring inside the plant.
Scope of Work
The project included the complete construction of a TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential)entrance, designed to ensure controlled access to the plant. This involved extensive paving work, the construction of a guard building for security personnel, and the integration of security systems necessary for chemical plant operations. The project was critical to maintaining the safety and security of the plant while adhering to industry standards.
Key Team Members
- Brad Laskowski – Project Manager
Brad managed the project from inception to completion, ensuring all safety protocols, including Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) and daily work permits, were adhered to before any work began. His oversight guaranteed that all project documentation was in place and that operations ran smoothly. - Logan Griffiths – Superintendent
Logan supervised on-site activities, ensuring that all work was completed according to the safety standards required for a chemical plant. He was responsible for coordinating daily operations and making sure that each scope of work was fully compliant with the plant’s safety requirements.
Working in a High-Security Environment
Although the work was not directly inside the chemical plant, Gant Industries was required to operate under strict safety protocols similar to those enforced for plant operations. Approved work permits were mandatory before the start of any construction activities, and detailed safety documentation was required each day. Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) were submitted for approval before the commencement of any task, ensuring that all risks were properly mitigated.
Challenges and Solutions
The main challenge in this project was maintaining compliance with the plant’s safety protocols while working in proximity to a highly sensitive operational area. Gant Industries successfully navigated this challenge by submitting daily safety documentation and JSAs to the plant’s safety manager for approval. The team’s attention to detail in adhering to these processes ensured that work could proceed without delays or safety incidents.
Results and Impact
The successful completion of the TWIC entrance and associated infrastructure allowed for more efficient and secure access to the chemical plant. The newly constructed 37,000 square feet of paving and the 640-square-foot guard building provide the plant with a secure, fully operational access point, enhancing security protocols and facilitating smoother operations for both personnel and visitors. Gant Industries completed the project on time and within the designated budget, further solidifying its reputation for delivering results in high-security, safety-critical environments.
